Camarillo, California

Camarillo, California, is located in Ventura County.  It a is community of approximately 70,000 people located just North of the City of Thousand Oaks and approximately 45 minutes from Santa Barbara on I-101 without traffic.  


The area was settled by the Chumash people prior to the arrival of the Europeans in the 16th century. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, a Portuguese explorer, claimed the area for Spain in 1542. A Spanish mapping expedition arrived in 1602.  In 1782 Father Junipero Serra founded the mission of
 San Buenaventura.

Parks and Recreation

Point Mugu State Park offers residents over five miles of Pacific Coast shoreline. In addition to the miles of sandy beaches, there are rocky bluffs, sand dunes, river canyons and grassy meadows with more than 70 miles of hiking trails.

Camarillo has over 300 acres of parkland offering a wide variety of activities including trails for walking, hiking, biking and horseback riding.  There are multiple athletic fields for baseball, football, soccer, and lacrosse as well as indoor and outdoor areas for swimming, basketball, and volleyball.  For the adventurous, there is a skateboard park.

Within the City limits there are four golf courses with many more in the nearby, surrounding area including Spanish Hills Golf and Country Club, Las Posas Country Club, Camarillo Springs Public Links, Sterling Hills Public Links.  Saticoy Country Club is nearby.

Attractions and Activities

One of Camarillo's most popular attractions is a visit to the WWII Aviation Museum. There are about two dozen vintage aircraft on display including a restored B-25 as well as German and Japanese aircraft.  Some of the planes are fully operational and flying tours are offered on occasion.

The Adolfo Camarillo Ranch House Museum is a completely restored Victorian Ranch House built in 1892. The Ranch House is now a cultural, educational and event center. 


Camarillo Fiesta is a fun-filled, multi-day annual event that is held in mid-July. Carnival rides, food and craft vendors, plus live music add to the celebration.  A classic car parade winds its way through Old Town Camarillo on Friday evening.  A classic car show follows on Sunday.  Other events and festivals include concerts in the park, Greek Festival, Taste of Camarillo, Art & Jazz Festival, Camarillo Air Show and Holiday Lighting Parade to name a few.
